Star Trek (2009)

I watched the new Star Trek movie the other night. It was ok, I guess. They kind of make Spock out to be a dolt, though. i guess I would have to say that it could have been a little bit better. Maybe I should have higher hopes for the next movie that comes out of this gerne.

“On the day of James Kirk’s birth, his father dies on his ship in a last stand against a mysterious alien vessel. He was looking for Ambassador Spock, who is a child on Vulcan at that time, disdained by his neighbors for his half-human nature. Twenty years later, Kirk has grown into a young troublemaker inspired by Capt. Christopher Pike to fulfill his potential in Starfleet even as he annoys his instructors like young Lt. Spock. Suddenly, there is an emergency at Vulcan and the newly commissioned USS Enterprise is crewed with promising cadets like Nyota Uhura, Hikaru Sulu, Pavel Chekov and even Kirk himself thanks to Leonard McCoy’s medical trickery. Together, this crew will have an adventure in the final frontier where the old legend is altered forever even as the new version of it is just beginning.”

Defiance (2008)

This weekend I watched the movie Defiance. Pretty good over all as well as being based on a true story. It is a little on the violent side, but what they hay, the truth sometimes is violent. Sometimes I wonder if this kind of thing will happen in the good U.S. of A. I would recommend every adult watch and learn.

“On the run and hiding in the deep forests of the then German occupied Poland and Belorussia (World War II), the three Bielski brothers find the impossible task of foraging for food and weapons for their survival. They live, not only with the fear of discovery, contending with neighboring Soviet partisans and knowing whom to trust but also take the responsibility of looking after a large mass of fleeing Polish Jews from the German war machine. Women, men, children, the elderly and the young alike are all hiding in makeshift homes in the dark, cold and unforgiving forests in the darkest times of German occupied Eastern Europe.”

Ghost Train (Otoshimono) 2006

This is a kind of strange movie that seems to have sprouted off of the Ringu series of movies. Not bad over all, just kind of a rehash. The talents make for nice eye candy though.

On her way to school, high school girl Nana sees a train accident. Then Nana and her friend Kanae start to come across various bizarre phenomena, including red fingerprints and a female spirit who ‘lives’ on the station platform. One day, Nana’s younger sister is lost, and the only possibility seems to be that she had been taken by these spirits. The missing tracks. The predictions that a mysterious woman makes.

Christmas Ham

DSC06271 Here is a pic of the Christmas ham that I made. Basically, it was already cooked and all I have to do is to warm it up. I scored the top Chris-cross and poked in  cloves and then I glazed it with a pinneapple glaze. The ham literally fell apart. Tasty!

NEIL YOUNG - Powderfinger

Look out, Mama,
there’s a white boat
comin’ up the river
With a big red beacon,
and a flag,
and a man on the rail
I think you’d better call John,
‘Cause it don’t
look like they’re here
to deliver the mail
And it’s less than a mile away
I hope they didn’t come to stay
It’s got numbers on the side
and a gun
And it’s makin’ big waves.

Daddy’s gone,
my brother’s out hunting
in the mountains
Big John’s been drinking
since the river took Emmy-Lou
So the powers that be
left me here
to do the thinkin’
And I just turned twenty-two
I was wonderin’ what to do
And the closer they got,
The more those feelings grew.

Daddy’s rifle in my hand
felt reassurin’
He told me,
Red means run, son,
numbers add up to nothin’
But when the first shot
hit the docks I saw it comin’
Raised my rifle to my eye
Never stopped to wonder why.
Then I saw black,
And my face splashed in the sky.

Shelter me from the powder
and the finger
Cover me with the thought
that pulled the trigger
Think of me
as one you’d never figured
Would fade away so young
With so much left undone
Remember me to my love,
I know I’ll miss her.

Littel House on the Prarie - Pilot Episode

Little-House-On-The-Prairie-The-Pilot-Episode The kids and I watched the pilot episode of Little House on the Prairie last night night and it was over all very good. All of the scenes in this pilot come straight out of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books.  Some of the scenes were out of the orginal order though. I guess that was done to keep things interesting. This is a pilot after all. I love this show because of the good nature family values that this show brought into my life.

“If I had a remembrance book, I would mark down how it was when we left our little house in the big woods to go west to Indian Territory. We had to go, Pa said, because so many people had come to live in the big woods, there wasn’t enough game anymore for him to hunt and he feared we might go hungry. Ma said we might never again see Grandma and Grandpa, or Aunt Docia and Aunt Ruby and Uncle George. Though it made me sad, I still thought it a fine thing to go where there had never been a road before. We’d go where the land was more bountiful, he said, and he sold our house and land and cow, and packed whatever would fit in the wagon. I was glad Pa took his fiddle, for it makes a joysome sound. Mary was afraid to go, but I knew nothing bad could happen as long as we had Pa and Jack. Jack is my best and truest friend and Pa says there has never been a better watchdog. I knew there would be rivers to cross and hills to climb, and I was glad, for this is a fair land and I rejoiced that I would see it.”

Plot:

Shortly after the Civil War, a young pioneer family tries to re-build their lives by moving to the prairies of Minnesota, with disastrous consequences. Pilot film to the long-running TV series.

Pilot movie to the legendary TV series of the same name, about the life of pioneer girl Laura Ingalls and her family. Laura (who is 9 years old) and her family – which includes her Pa, Charles; her Ma, Caroline; and her sisters, 11-year-old Mary and 2-year-old Carrie – move from the Little House in the Big Woods of Wisconsin to the prairies of Kansas. Settling about 50 miles west of Independence, Kan., the Ingalls set up home. It’s there where the Ingalls meet Mr. Edwards, a bachelor who quickly becomes Laura’s cherished friend. While on the prairie, the Ingalls must endure many hardships and life-threatening challenges, ranging from Indians to wild fires.
